I know. I've done it myself. I've coached others to do it. From the sidelines I've witnessed others take the journey on their own.
They all said what a wonderful personal transformation to have experienced.
Two of my previous careers were army sniper and TV cameraman. As life enriching as they were to me in so many ways, they also stunted my growth in others.
Hiding behind the scope of my sniper rifle, hiding behind the lens of my camera.
Why? I blamed that I started life as a stutterer. As a child I was dragged along to speech therapy. I improved yet the stutter dogged me through my teens and into my twenties and thirties. My social confidence and self esteem were fragile.
In my mid thirties I realised my stuttering was not the problem.
Blaming others does not change your life. NOT blaming others does.
With hands shaking violently from nerves and my voice trembling I started doing magic shows for my young children. Eventually I would perform two thousand magic shows as a professional magician.
A handful of magic videos turned into a Youtube channel with 30 million views which turned into creating the world's first online training academy for professional children's entertainers.
I was now teaching others - all around the world - who had the passion inside of them but like me...
To help liberate people's inner genius for the world to hear is still so special for me as I never thought I would be the one to do that.
One was the army. I saw naive boys turn into strong men. The other is Toastmasters, the international speaking organisation.
There I witnessed ordinary people who wanted something better for themselves, change. From unconfident to confident in front of others.
Now I get paid to inspire, educate, engage and entertain others with my speaking. From stutterer to speaker. Who would have thought?
If you have an inkling insie of you that you would like to confidently speak, to hold court with your friends and colleagues, or, to share your vision in front of a thousand, I want you to understand this: I am nothing special. I am the poster child for averageness.
It's not easy but it's not hard. Hard is when you lose someone special in your life, when tradegy or calamity appears unwelcomed.
You cannot learn this from a book. You cannot learn this at a weekend seminar. Like learning to swim, you must jump in and get wet.
There are two ways I recommend to get started.
Join Toastmasters and actively attend for two years. I guarantee you will be a more confident speaker. You get seriously great value for a small financial investment.
If you want something more intensive and tailored, then I offer coaching programs to get you speaking smart.
Not only will you distance yourself from opportunity and possibility in the rest of your working career, you'll miss out on your chance to feel the life affirming lift you get from speaking confidently.
Simple Strong Strategy - the 3 phase life of education, work, retirement is over. We all need a new work/life strategy simple enough to use everyday yet strong enough to last your lifetime.
Mentor/Learner Mindset - You need to learn, unlearn, relearn continuously. You’ll always have someone to learn from, to learn with, to pass learning onto
Attitude Aware - employers are already looking for people with great attitude over ability - develop a service oriented mindset. The 21C careerist asks how can I help? instead of what can I get?
Risk Taker - Decision makers who are willing to take imperfect action - building on wins and improving from failures - will be sought after
Think Critically - So much of what has worked before is becoming redundant. We all need to banish assumptions. Those who can reject orthodoxy in a respectful way will rise.
Coaching can be done online or face to face depending on location and availbility.
